ENGLISH translation:
Stella Molelekwa is a 27 year old dancer and choreographer from South-Africa with main competance from African dance; traditional and modern. Stella has since 2007 worked as a dance teacher for the Field Band Foundation Academy in Durban, a school that offers musical education combined with leadership. Through this scholarship she has been through many dance genres. In 2012 she recieved the prize Women of the Year from the Academy.
One of her teachers has been Musa Hlatswayo, an experienced dancer who has worked with many jazz and modern dance companies in Durban. Stella has also been an exchange student in the US where she practised Color Guard for the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps for two seasons. Color Guard is an American tradition which we don't have in Norway today. They twirl with big flags, sables and "weapons" instead of batons as we do. They use these to make cool effects combined with dance and formations while the band plays music, together they work as a team constantly moving and changing formations. This can remind us Norwegians about our Royal Guards, but less military and more COLOURFUL!
We got Stella through a great deal with the Norwegian Band Union (Norges Musikkorps Forbund) and the development project PULSE they have with Field Band Foundation.
